HEALTHY DIGESTION TO FUEL AN ACTIVE LIFE

The digestibility and the fibre components of your Boxer’s diet are important to his gastrointestinal health and digestion. At times of stress or intense physical exertion, the sensitivity of your Boxer’s digestion may be increased. Highly digestible protein ingredient limit the amount of undigested nutrients transported further down into the large bowel, so reducing undesired flatulence and loose stools.

If your Boxer’s diet contains the right amount and type of fibre this can help promote good stool quality and keep the gut regular and healthy. Beet pulp is a natural fibre sourced from sugar beets that provides bulk and can be broken down by gut bacteria. As a result, rich substances called short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are produced, providing energy for the intestinal cells.

The joints and cartilage of breeds like the Boxer can benefit from special ingredients. Nutrients such as glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate occur naturally in the body and are major building blocks of healthy cartilage. When contained in your dog’s diet, they can help support healthy joints by constantly replenishing the nutritional reservoir needed for the body’s natural process of repair and renewal.

Owners should be looking to feed a diet that provides essential fatty acids too, including the omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids in an optimal ratio of 5:1 to 10:1. Of particular note are the omega-3 fatty acids, found in fishmeal and fish oil, which possess anti-inflammatory properties that can help support joint health. Antioxidants such as vitamin E can also help nutritionally maintain healthy joint tissue and protect body cells from excessive peroxidation.

Join nutrients, including glucosamine and chondroitin, can help replenish the nutritional reservoir for healthy cartlage, helping maintain activity and mobility.

A POWERFUL DOG NEEDS STRONG DEFENCES

A POWERFUL DOG NEEDS STRONG DEFENCES

A powerful dog needs strong defences

The key components of your Boxer’s immune system are his innate and adaptive defences. Physical barriers like his skin, mucous membranes and the lining of his respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts make up the innate defence. His adaptive defence consists of immune cells and antibodies that are activated when invading agents breach his first line of innate defences. The better the immune response, the more successful your Boxer can be at defending himself and staying healthy.

Recent research has indicated that including antioxidants in a dog’s diet can help slow the effects of the aging process of body cells and support the immune cell function as dogs get older. Antioxidants are nutrients found in fruits and vegetables. Common antioxidants include vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E and certain compounds called Carotenoids (like ß-carotene).

Healthy heart and a zest for life

L-carnitine is a vitamin-like nutrient, that helps provide energy for the heart muscle and other body cells. L-carnitine works by attaching itself to fatty acids and transports them into the part of the cell that converts fat into usable energy. Because fatty acids are the heart’s major metabolic fuel L-carnitine has an important role to play for a normal heart function. Healthy dogs can synthesize sufficient L-carnitine in their body from amino acids to support their normal heart function.

L-carnitine can also be found in animal based sources of protein or is available as supplements. Additional L-carnitine in your Boxer’s diet can therefore help replenish this important nutrient on a daily basis.

Taurine is an amino acid and as such a major building block for proteins. But taurine is essential for your dog’s normal heart function, too. It helps regulate the heartbeat and plays an important role for the heart muscle contraction. Premium quality diets containing high quality animal protein from chicken, fish and eggs are naturally rich in taurine and can contribute to daily taurine availability for your Boxer’s heart and body.

L-carnitine helps provide energy for the heart muscle and taurine helps regulate the heartbeat.
